Oil Donkey
In “Oil Donkey,” a hand-cranked mechanism activates a bronze hammer that repeatedly strikes a slate roof tile. The system functions exactly as intended, producing a slow erosion. A material intended for shelter is reduced through continuous, mechanical action. The viewer turns the wheel, sustaining this action and placing them within the system rather than outside it. My interest in this work is that the motion of the piece remains the same as the original structure.
